Dr Ashok Kumar was traveling to Naal to close a business deal when he
was abducted.

QUETTA: A Hindu trader along with his driver was kidnapped in the
Ferozabad area, some 30 kilometres away from Khuzdar district, security
officials said on Thursday.

According to Balochistan Levies, the trader identified as Dr Ashok
Kumar, was a resident of Hyderabad and was on his way to Naal from
Khuzdar in his pickup truck when a group of armed men intercepted and
abducted the trader along with his driver and two labourers at gun point.

“The trader had come to finalise a deal about marble in Naal area,” local Levies Official Hamidullah said.

However, the kidnappers released the two labourers, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Yamin in Wadh. However, driver Azad Khan and
Dr Ashok Kumar were still in the kidnapper’s custody. Police suspect Dr Kumar has been abducted for ransom and have launched an
investigation into the incident.

Khuzdar district has been declared a ‘black-spot’ by provincial minister for minorities Basant Lal Gulshan. He said that several Hindu
traders had been kidnapped for ransom from Khuzdar, Kalat and Nasirabad division recently. Gulshan said that most of the abductees
had been released after paying large sums of money as ransom.

The minister had even raised the issue of kidnappings during a session of the Balochistan Assembly but to not avail.

Hindu trader abducted in Pak''s Balochistan province

Islamabad, Dec 9 (PTI) A Hindu trader has been abducted along with his driver by a group of armed men in the restive Balochistan
province of Pakistan in the latest of a series of such incidents targeting the minority community in the region.
Ashok Kumar, his driver and two workers were abducted in Ferozabad area, 30 km from Khuzdar district, yesterday. The two workers
were subsequently released, officials said.

Kumar was on his way to Naal from Khuzdar in his pick-up truck when a group of armed men intercepted him and abducted him and
others, the Daily Times newspaper quoted police and other officials as saying.

Tehsildar Hameedullah said the two workers, identified as Muhammad Azam and Muhammad Yamin, were subsequently released by the
abductors.

"The driver, Azad Khan, and Ashok Kumar are still in the captivity of the kidnappers," he said.

The incident could be a case of abduction for ransom, Hameedullah said.
Kumar is a resident of Hyderabad in Sindh province and trades in marble.

Over the past year, dozens of Hindus, mostly traders or their relatives, have been abducted for ransom in Balochistan.

released in Wadh area. “The driver, Azad Khan, and Dr Ashok Kumar are still in the captivity of kidnappers,” Hameedullah said, adding
that it could be a case of kidnapping for ransom. He said Dr Ashok Kumar is a resident of Hyderabad, and trades in marble. The case has
