The murder of Prof Saba Dashtiari is deplorable in the strongest words. The Baloch have lost one of its bravest and most dedicated sons, and Balochi
has become orphan from this very day. Many years following the untimely death of Syed Zahur Shah Hashmi, he was a new hope for the future of
Balochi language and literature. He had opened libraries in Karachi and in many cities in Balochistan, started and monitored classes in Balochi
language, published well-researched books almost one in every year of his own and many others by other Baloch scholars (without any financial help
from any corners), and was, along with Dr Abdul Hameed Baloch, the moving spirit of the first encyclopedia dedicated to Balochistan, called
"Encycopaedia Balochistanica". He was like a machine in work and Balochi was the only love of his life. His every single minute was dedicated to
Balochi and Balochistan. He was too precious of a person to be lost. The Baloch nation will shed tears of blood on the loss of such a dedicated son.
Friends in Pakistan have told me on the phone that not even a single line has been dedicated to the loss of such a great son of the Baloch on the
Pakistani media which shows that the pain of the Baloch is not the pain of the rest of Pakistan. It is really deplorable. Murder of a scholar, a writer, a
poet, a serving university professor of Islamic studies does not deserve even a mention in Pakistani electronic media leaves us with no option but to
think that this is all planned and orchestrated.

This indeed is a great loss. He was an itrepid son of soil.

I am shocked at the news of the brutal murder of Prof Saba Dashtyari. I pray God Almighty to rest his soul in peace and give strength to his family and
friends to bear this great loss ! Amin !
Only few days back I called him on the phone and told him that I heard his voice on BBC demanding azadi i.e. freedom of Balochistan ! He said that
was in a student protest meeting which was held for the disappearance and throwing mutilated dead bodies of Baloch youth.
He became emotional and demanded to end these cruel acts of Pakistani security agencies. He did not know that he also will be the target of the
same Pakistani agencies within few days.
He was a poet and prolific writer of Balochi language. I remember when he attended a conference at Uppsala University, Sweden in August, 2000 he
recited his famous poem in a cultural session with the title "Mani diwaal a kay prousheet ?" (Who will break my wall ?) with reference to The Wall of
Berlin.
He was an untiring person in his research of Balochi language.
Once Dr Badal Khan told him "Saba, taw yak mourey e paymaa yak paymaa suragaa ay" (Saba, you are always in movement like an ant).
He was always busy in writing or collecting the work of other Baloch writers.
Among his many books he compiled a valuable anthology of Balochi with the title of "Balochi Zubaan e Aakibat" (Issue of Balochi Language) in two
volumes.
