US ties: SCBA chief urges govt to
exercise caution
September 29, 2011
QUETTA: Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jehangir has urged the government to resolve differences with the United States
through diplomatic channels.
She said that nations should think 20 times before going to war, adding people from all provinces should be taken into confidence on vital
national issues.
Speaking to lawyers in the bar room on Tuesday, Ms Jehangir urged the government and political leadership participating in All Parties
Conference (APC) to make policies with sobriety and courage, adding that the people should be told the truth so that there were no
differences between the people and the rulers.
She said the entire nation should be informed of policies formulated by the government.
Referring to the Balochistan situation, Ms Asma said that Balochistan issue was political and therefore the problem should be resolved
politically in order to address grievances of the people.
She said the policy of killing the people and throwing their bodies should be immediately stopped because this act had aggravated the
situation in Balochistan. She warned that sectarian and ethnic killings were dangerous for national harmony and integrity of the country,
adding that anti-state elements could exploit the situation.
She said situation in Balochistan was deteriorating day by day because of wrong policies of the government, adding that a situation was
deliberately being created to force the political leadership to hand over decision-making to security forces.
About appointment of judges, the SCBA president said that appointments of judges in the Supreme Court and high courts should be made
before bar elections so that appointments did not influence election results.
