QUETTA: The Frontier Constabulary (FC) has started a search operation for suspected militants hiding in the
mountainous areas between Kalat and Naushki, sources told Daily Times on Thursday.
Sources said that seven suspects had been arrested so far. The FC spokesman was not available for comment.
Two days ago, the provincial home minister had said that a search operation against men suspected of firing
rockets and bombings had started in Balochistan.
Sources said the FC has set up camp in the Gorbarat area and helicopters could be seen there. The identities of
the detained men could not be ascertained. FC personnel have started moving towards Dilband and Juwan, they
said, adding that between 800 and 1,000 FC personnel were combing Ahmadwal, Gorbarat and surrounding
areas. Meanwhile, a man identifying himself as Meerak Baloch said on the telephone that the Baloch community
would retaliate “if the FC personnel hurt even a single Baloch”.
Also, Jamhoori Watan Party head Nawab Akbar Bugti said the FC operation fuelled apprehensions that the
government was planning a military operation in Balochistan. He said that a meeting on the provincial law and
order situation had highlighted some suspect areas in Balochistan, but the operation is targeting areas which
were not mentioned. “Sibi, Tilli, Machh, Bolan and Shoran were singled out and these areas are the electoral
colleges of PML-Quaid parliamentarians,” said Bugti.
