Stop Balochistan operation, demands Opposition

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties on Monday staged a protest outside the Parliament Building, demanding the
government stop military action in Balochistan and resolve the issue through dialogue.

The protestors, who
included parliamentarians from Balochistan, also criticised President Musharraf for his drive to build
Kalabagh Dam.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, the ARD chairman, said the ARD would hold a rally in Lahore on
Sunday against Balochistan and Wana operations. He said the nation had been dismembered in 1971
because of the army operation in East Pakistan. “The same history is being repeated in Balochistan,” he said.
Fahim said the opposition was united against the Balochistan operation.

“The government should hold talks
with stakeholders in Balochistan and Wana to resolve the dispute politically instead of forcing its decisions at
gunpoint. They (Baloch) are as loyal to Pakistan as anybody else,” he said. “Pakistan was created by civilian
representatives, not by the force of the army. Civilians should be allowed to run the country.” Dr Abdul Hai
Baloch, Amanullah Kanrani, Tahmina Daultana, Sanaullah Baloch, Rauf Mengal, Raza Rabbani, Rukhsana
Zubairi, Faratullah Babar and Latif Ansari also addressed the protest.
